Art Therapy is one way to help children grieve and express their feelings regarding the death of a loved one. Through constructive and creative art play they are able to tell their story, have their concerns heard and some of their questions answered, to come to a new understanding of what has happened, and to remember and celebrate the life of their loved one.
An intake interview with the surviving parent(s) and child will be held before entry into a Children’s Art Therapy group to assess the needs and concerns and to determine if group or individual art therapy is better to meet the needs of the child. Each seven-week program is uniquely designed to address the specific needs of the bereaved children in a particular group. There will be a closing interview with the parent and child.
